Expert LSAT Instruction in Common Sense Language

The LSAT is daunting to go at on your own - trust me, I know from experience. Spare the frustration of memorizing the complex rules of symbolic logic. If you’re looking to deconstruct LSAT language and navigate it in a successful, functional, and time efficient way, there is nothing more effective than being taught by an expert tutor. I’ve been offering my services to traditional (undergraduate) and non-traditional (professional) law school candidates since 2018, and I’m here to give you the personalized attention you deserve so that you can reach your fullest potential.

ABOUT ME

Personalized. Caring. Quality Education with Flexible Scheduling.

Looking to increase your LSAT score and need one-on-one guidance from a reliable professional? Sometimes what it takes to really understand this exam is a considerate instructor who knows the "ins and outs" of the LSAT personally, and who knows how to teach at your pace. Having worked through all available officially released LSATs (Yes, all! I'm nothing if not thorough!), I bring a depth of experience and knowledge to those who are eager to reach their highest potential. I am a 1L law student with an official LSAT score of 175 (99th percentile). I completed my Bachelors of Science in Philosophy with emphases in Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and minored in Biology at Minnesota State University - Mankato, 2018. I'm versed in pencil-and-paper LSAT administration, the LSAT FLEX, and the newest 4 section online LSAT format. I have experience providing custom instruction to students with special needs, and I can adjust your lessons for any necessary accommodations or circumstance. I meet every student where they are, and work closely to get them where they'd like to be. I schedule flexibly, offering quality, personalized service at competitive prices. LESSONS FOR EACH SECTION

Develop a Targeted Understanding of Every Question Type

Untitled

ANALYTICAL REASONING

Otherwise Known As LOGIC GAMES

This is the section most test takers find the most difficult; the style of questioning is largely absent from other standardized tests. The Logic Games section makes up one third of your LSAT score, so what may seem frighteningly unfamiliar will need to be deciphered into digestible rules and selective variable positions. It is not "fun and games", but with expert instruction and guided practice, I can help you find at least a little fun in tackling these questions.

I'll work to help you gain an in depth understanding of each question type, and - together - we will develop an easy to diagram, customized attack strategy for this section of the test that works for you.

I prioritize clean diagramming, rule combination inferences, contrapositive comprehension, numerical distribution, variable selection, and efficient timing strategy as goals for each of my students. With specific instruction in these areas, students will see a noticeable improvement in their logic game performance.

I am well versed in instruction for advanced and rare game types including Pattern, Mapping, Circular, and Hybrid logic games, as well as the more common types, such as Sequencing, Grouping, Matching and Distribution. I will help you navigate any Analytical Reasoning challenge, so that what once seemed scary will break down before your eyes into a series of uncomplicated steps for a straightforward, successful, and timely logic game completion.

LOGICAL REASONING

There is a Method to the Madness

Have you ever read through a Logical Reasoning question, examined the answer choices, and then ended up more confused than when you started? Every LSAT student has had this feeling at least once before. It takes a peculiar skillset made of well trained critical ability and a precise method of logical inquisition to identify and account for the all of the often subtle reasoning flaws written into each LR section.

Logical Reasoning prompts are written cleverly; they are made to lull an untrained reader into permitting misplaced assumptions of their own to collude their reasoning ability, and to trick the LSAT student into accepting incorrect assumptions made (or implied) by the speaker in the prompt. In this way, the questions can present as 25-26 doubly challenging riddles for the test taker to solve in just T minus 35.

Would you believe me if I told you the questions actually more closely resemble jigsaw puzzle pieces? I guarantee I can show you how, and I promise to help you approach your test date with a put together picture of how to master this exam section.

I train my students to understand the variations of flawed LSAT argumentation, and the functional significance of criticality during dissection of the question stimulus and answer choices. A strong comprehension of the sorts of faulty reasoning that appear in this test section, together with a keen eye for assumption making (and assumption prevention) are the keys to a successful Logical Reasoning performance.  I will help you to develop a complete critical skillset to address common flaws in LSAT argumentation, including ad-hominem attacks, circularity, overgeneralization/exceptionality faults, problems of composition and classification, unnecessary binaries, ambiguous verbiage, self-contained contradiction, and appeals to authority or emotion. With firm knowledge of how these reasoning problems present and an understanding of how one resolves them, my students proceed to their official exam day with the tools for their strongest performance possible.

READING COMPREHENSION

You Won't Miss the Forest or the Trees

Many students have some familiarity with Reading Comprehension in some regard, be it yearly school testing or college entrance exams. LSAT Reading Comprehension bares some similarities to those experiences, but has several important uniquities that set it apart.

The LSAT tests your Reading Comprehension abilities with two goals in mind; to see how accurately you can interpret and recall the information the passage author provides for you and to see whether you decipher the means by which they justify each of their main points. This section, like the other sections an LSAT exam (and unlike reading comprehension in other standardized tests) necessitates a strong grasp on logical argumentation for success. Schools want candidates who can make heads and tails of a variety of dense texts; you'll need a careful understanding of what the LSAT writers want you to make sense of to prove that you are ready for your legal education and all of the complex readings it entails.

In Reading Comprehension instruction, I emphasize attention to reasoning structure (the big picture), as well as the details that make the passage premises and conclusions viable. These skills are imperative to successful navigation of each passage and are essential to be prepared with the proper information to answer the questions that follow. You do not need to be a scientist to understand a selection about the composition of the sun, nor do you need to be a historian who knows already about antique pottery in Japan to perform excellently in this test section. I promise to show you that every piece of information that you will need is right in the passage before you, albeit hidden by deliberately convoluted text and just barely implied inferences.

I'll help you to understand the essential nature of context in LSAT Reading Comprehension, identification of each main point and the argumentation used to arrive to it, the kinds of information you will read (background, justification, conclusion, application, and theory), and the types of global and specific local references the questions will appeal to. Careful and critical reading is a must. With my help, these skills will become a natural part of your Reading Comprehension approach and you will see improvement because of your well focused process!
